Preparing for the Paid Leave for All Workers Act that takes effect January 1, 2024

9/29/2023

In March 2023, Governor Pritzker signed SB208, the Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLAW) into law, making Illinois the first state in the Midwest and the third in the country to mandate paid time off to be used for any reason. The historic legislation provides employees with up to 40 hours of paid leave during a 12-month period, meaning approximately 1.5 million workers will begin earning paid time off starting in 2024.

With an effective date of January 1, 2024, the Department of Labor is in the process of preparing guidance and other resources and materials to educate employees and assist employers with PLAW compliance. As a part of that process, IDOL has announced the hosting of four 1-hour long webinars during October and November.

  • October 3 (Tuesday)
  • October 19 (Thursday)
  • November 1 (Wednesday)
  • November 16 (Thursday)
